We believe that collective cooking and eating together is essential for a solidary and social community. In end-time capitalism, eating is about efficiency and/or prestige. Food should be quick and cheap or fancy and expensive. While eating, people check their emails or news, read books, watch series or the food itself is used as content. People don’t eat consciously; isolation and distraction are the keywords here.
Küfa, i.e. Küche für alle (Kitchen For All) or Vokü, short for Volk(x)sküche, aims to counteract this trend. Good food for everyone without having to pay is the motto. The food is cooked together and with aspiration. It is financed by donations or by dumpstering food. All of this requires infrastructure that exceeds the capacity of a standard household kitchen and this is exactly what we want to create!
